Year 4

To make our start to school 2021 as magical as we could, we have been having an exciting few weeks on a whole school project learning all about Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. We couldn't pass this by without learning all about the sport of Quidditch. 

 

We have be learning about the skills of the game, which we discovered are very similar to the many other invasion sports we learn about. Using the seekers, chasers, keepers and beaters, we learnt many different skills to be able to play the full game on our 'brooms!'

 

We have had a lot of fun and improved our skills - great work!

Autumn Term

 

During the Autumn term, Year 4 learn about Multiskills, 

Diwali Dance Special Visit 

 

As part of the Year 4 Diwali learning week, we had a special visit from the West End in Schools Company. We learnt how to tell a story using dance movements. The children worked in groups initially, creating their own moving statue. They then moved though developing a routine. 

Orienteering

For the first part of our lessons this year, we have started learning about Outdoor Adventurous Activities. Using all the new training we had received from the 'Cross curricular Orienteering' team, we have used this new learning straight away!

 

It helped us set up key skills at the start of the year:

  • Map Reading, 
  • Orienteering technique, 
  • Team work and tactical thinking, 
  • Fitness technique. 

 

 

The children know what a key is and its importance. They have developed spatial awareness of symbols by transferring information on a diagram into reality. Then they understand the physical skills needed for orienteering: agility, balance, co-ordination whilst holding or looking at the map. To learn these skills we had great fun with the activity 'Silly Faces'. 

Spring Term Orienteering.

 

Developing on from our first lessons, we now continue our learning. We have really enjoyed ourselves and we now know more map symbols and understand the importance of using the key.
